How to use the economic calendar?
High impact events
Announcements like NFP (Non-Farm Payrolls), rate decisions from the Fed, ECB or BoE, and inflation figures (CPI) typically cause high volatility. Avoid opening positions just before these announcements unless your strategy is specifically designed for news trading.
Consensus vs. Actual
The market reacts to the difference between the published figure (Actual) and the analyst consensus. A significant gap — positive or negative — amplifies the price reaction. Also watch for revisions of the previous figure which can alter interpretation.
Preparing your session
Check the calendar before each session to identify risky time slots. Many experienced traders close or reduce their positions before major announcements to limit exposure to unpredictable volatility.
Time zones
The times shown correspond to your local time zone (detected by your browser). American events are generally published at 8:30 AM or 10:00 AM EST, European ones between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM EST.
